Today is the monumental proof that everything in Paris is, in fact, incredibly better than in the U.S. Because today: il neige. Not a monstrous-can't-get-to-school-or-work-or-out-my-front-door type of neige; just a steady, beautiful neige sprinkling the trees and cafés of Paris. It may be snowing in DC, but Paris is doing snow the classy way.
Which is why (as soon as I finish typing this) I will be heading out amongst the flocons de neige (Gracie should know that word!) for a solo tourist adventure. Destination: Pascaul Pinaud Boulangerie/Patisserie, on the rue Monge in the 5th arrondissement. I'll probably be too intimidated to spit out any more French than necessary to buy a baguette, but perhaps I will manage to correctly pronounce the name of a dessert pastry as well. Or at least stare at it while drooling enough that the cashier realizes what I want. The suggestion for this adventure came from Tyrel, by way of Anthony Bourdain and the Travel Channel, so I expect nothing less than complete ecstasy when biting into whatever I manage to buy.
Today I will NOT forget my camera (something that needs to become a habit here) and so I will share photos of a Parisian snowfall when I come home this evening, after my first Islam and France class.
