What's the best way to frostbite your fingers? I'm not sure if it's the best, but surely the most delicious way is to forget your mittens, and then go eat Amorino gelato in the Jardin du Luxembourg. My weapons of choice: Amarena (vanille et griottes, vanilla and black cherry) and white chocolate&cognac(I can't remember what it was called). Definitely worth aching blue/red fingers. The garden was beautiful; though all of the trees are bare, there are statues and fountains littered throughout. More surprising than the nude beauty of the park was the fact that I saw lots of people. Parents with their kids, elderly couples sitting on benches, teenagers smoking and acting cool, toddlers chasing pigeons...I can hardly wait for it to really warm up so I can sit in that incroyable park and not worry that my butt will freeze to the bench.
Little old man and his grand-daughter, who was asking why there were no fish in the Marie de Medici fountain...in March.
There is good news for this day: when I returned from my afternoon stroll, Mme Fleury invited me to have a cup of thé with her. Yes, she was on the phone most of the time, but it was the moment I needed to finally feel like I'm not just a boarder here. Granted, it was probably because she's lonely - with her daughter gone for the week - but hey, I got a cup of tea (to thaw my fingers on) and a conversation. It's a start.
You should go to the Parc Monceau! I thought I loved the Luxembourg Gardens, but then I went there. :)
